Our team on a major transport project in Victoria recently achieved an industry first by installing 50 m3 of structural concrete which incorporates recycled soft plastic. The concrete was placed in the roof slab of a new rail station building.

The achievement is the result of collaboration involving Boral, EnviroCast,  M. James Engineering, and our team. The team was able to gain approval for the 40MPa concrete mix which contains the

in place of some aggregate.

Recycled soft plastic has recently made the news in Australia due to the discontinuation of a major plastics recycling program, and there are currently limited options for reuse of soft plastics.

This new concrete mix opens up a new era for recycling of soft plastics.

We are extremely proud to announce the award of the $714 million contract by the Gladstone Area Water Board and Queensland Government, to deliver the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline project.

The design and construct project will be delivered as a 50/50 joint venture with partner, BMD. The new pipeline will secure the single source water supply risk from Awoonga Dam enabling long-term water security for urban and industrial customers in the region.

The project comprises an approximately 117 kilometre pipeline, a water treatment plant, reservoirs and pumping stations. It will provide further water security for the area and support for the emerging hydrogen industry in the Gladstone region in Queensland, Australia.

A core component of the joint venture’s winning bid was a commitment to local content. Lasting legacies will be left in the Gladstone and Rockhampton regions through the employment of a diverse workforce including a $10 million commitment to suppliers and businesses owned by First Nations Australians, 10,000 hours for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce participation, as well as trainees and apprentices to make up 15% of the workforce hours.

Major construction will start later this year and the new pipeline will be complete in 2026.
