McConnell Dowell’s newest contract award by Dunedin City Council (DCC) to deliver their Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants Upgrade will see McConnell Dowell establishing a long-term presence in Ōtepoti.

This capital renewal work contract includes scoping, optimising, designing and delivering a variety of work for the city’s three wastewater treatment plants and six clean water treatment plants.

The project team includes DCC operational staff, McConnell Dowell (lead contractor) Stantec (design) and Lutra (process engineers).

McConnell Dowell Managing Director for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, Fraser Wyllie says “McConnell Dowell first worked for Dunedin City in 1977 on the Mt Grand Water Treatment Plant, 14 years ago worked on the Tahuna Wastewater Treatment Plant Outfall. We have been delivering the Sawyers Bay - Three Waters Pipe Renewals Project for the Dunedin City Council (DCC) and are delighted to grow our involvement with the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants Upgrade. We are really looking forward to continuing working with the DCC team and reinforcing the city’s three waters infrastructure.”

Planning and design have started, and construction is expected to begin in May this year. Click here for more information.

McConnell Dowell's new green machines hit the road but not the environment.

An exciting day yesterday for progressing the electrification of our vehicle fleet, with our Sustainability Manager Rebecca Hendy handing over the keys of our first fully branded EV to Michael Mongan, Project Director on one of our Victorian projects. Love the green!

Achieving absolute carbon reductions by avoiding fuel use is the foundation of our carbon reduction plan. We started with our stationary equipment by adopting Solarators in place of diesel generators on our sites. We're now focusing on our moving plant and equipment.

Exciting milestone on our New Bridgewater Bridge Project in Tasmania last week with the arrival of half of our construction barges in Hobart.

Floated into place, linked together and rested on the river bed, a total of 12 barges will provide a safe and sturdy temporary platform from which we’ll construct the 1km long bridge.

It’s a smart solution that avoids the time, cost and environmental impact of constructing a temporary work platform on driven piles.

Stay tuned for regular updates as this city-shaping project really ramps up. Click the picture for more project details.

What an awesome time our Singapore-based team had recently, helping out at Willing Hearts.

Willing Hearts is a secular, non-affiliated charity run by a small dedicated team and supported by volunteers.  Its soup kitchen prepares, cooks and distributes about 7000 meals a day for the underprivileged.  It covers over 70 locations island-wide and operates 365 days a year.

Our team of 28 volunteers spent the day cutting, washing, preparing and packing meals. Well done team.

Earlier this month, our second cohort (pictured above) completed the McConnell Dowell Group Operational Leadership Program run for us by Melbourne Business School, in association with Melbourne University.

With three intakes over the course of the year, 24 identified leaders from all four of our business units are selected for a five day intensive on-campus course specifically designed for us, covering different aspects of leadership.

Driven by our philosophy of "Grow together", we are continually investing in our employees so they can set and reach personal and professional goals.
