Building Futures - Bridgewater Bridge's School Program

Our "Construction Discovery Tour Program" on our New Bridgewater Bridge Project.

About 50 students from 4 different schools have listened to exciting information about the project and visited some construction locations.

We’re expecting another 120 students before the end of this term, and we already have 3 schools booked for term three.

The students are immersed in their “construction experience” and we’re receiving some really positive feedback all round.

It is a fantastic way to expose students to construction career opportunities and have fun at the same time!

Here are some highlights:

  • Receiving a handwritten resume one student wrote on a gifted notepad during a powerpoint presentation!
  • Primary students doing their “prestart stretches” before boarding the bus for their construction tour
  • Jaws dropping when we explain that our largest segment weighs almost as much as a blue whale… one student said ‘but how can they just balance in the air’
  • Watching a class of rural STEM students calculate that 50,000m3 of concrete weighs 120,000 tonnes in less than the time it took to start the tour bus!
