The Golden Grove Park ‘n’ Ride is another project delivered within the highly successful Public Transport Projects Alliance (PTPA), a key initiative of the South Australian Government to deliver a program of public transport projects.  The initiative focusses on delivering community-based and value-for-money public transport solutions that improve liveability and connectivity for South Australians.

PTPA brings together McConnell Dowell, Mott MacDonald and Arup, in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department).

The previous Golden Grove Park ‘n’ Ride serviced the fast-growing area of the north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide. Long term planning from the Department identified future capacity constraints on the ability of the facility to service the needs of the local population, with capacity of the carpark reached on most days.

The aim of the project was to meet demand (existing and predicted) for Park ‘n’ Ride commuters and to increase public transport patronage. The existing Golden Grove Park ‘n’ Ride initially contained 177 ground-level, off-street parking spaces for commuter access to O-Bahn bus services.

The O-Bahn network (recently extended by McConnell Dowell) is the most popular public transport service in Adelaide, carrying more passengers on an average weekday than the most popular rail services.

The new Golden Grove Park 'n’ Ride has significantly continued the ongoing and future success of the O-Bahn mass transit system, servicing the north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide.

The improved facility provides all weather parking, improved accessibility, enhanced public security and improvement of the local amenity. PTPA developed an urban design-led solution for the project that built on the way the community engaged with and passed through the local area. This approach provided for a legacy of an enhanced, safer and more inviting Park ‘n’ Ride facility for the benefit of the local community.

The construction of the new Park ‘n’ Ride facility increased the number of car parking spaces from 177 to over 450, including ten DDA compliant car parks and six Kiss ‘n’ Go bays, increasing public accessibility to this important transport corridor.

The facility was planned and designed, in consultation with the local community and the South Australian Government, with the key drivers of minimising impacts to adjacent land uses whilst achieving economic, environmental, and social outcomes.

The project was delivered without any lost time injuries, one month early than planned and under budget. The project was a notable success for the Department, PTPA, Subcontractors, and the local community.
