We were selected by Hydro Tasmania to execute the critical civil and structural works for the Lake King William Tunnel Plug. This high-precision engineering project forms a vital part of the landmark Tarraleah Power Station Redevelopment, a key initiative under Australia’s Battery of the Nation clean energy strategy.
The project required the fabrication and precise installation of a massive tunnel plug measuring 4 metres wide by 5 metres high. Due to the remote location of the site in the Tasmanian Central Highlands, logistics presented a significant hurdle. The structure had to be safely transported from mainland Victoria across the Bass Strait, requiring seamless coordination with SeaRoad Shipping and Tasmanian Heavy Haulage to navigate complex marine and regional road networks.
Our scope includes:
Advanced Engineering Integration: Installing the 4m x 5m plug to isolate water flows safely.
Conveyance Upgrades: Facilitating the transition to a new, higher-capacity water conveyance system to feed the redeveloped Tarraleah Power Station.
Future-Proof Design: Incorporating dedicated personnel access points and removable pipeline sections near the lake edge to ensure long-term maintenance capability.
Collaborative Logistics: Managing strict site delivery schedules alongside specialized heavy haulage partners to ensure zero disruption to the sensitive alpine environment.
