Industry-first reuse of recycled soft plastics

Our team on a major transport project in Victoria recently achieved an industry first by installing 50 m3 of structural concrete which incorporates recycled soft plastic. The concrete was placed in the roof slab of a new rail station building.

The achievement is the result of collaboration involving Boral, EnviroCast,  M. James Engineering, and our team. The team was able to gain approval for the 40MPa concrete mix which contains the

in place of some aggregate.

Recycled soft plastic has recently made the news in Australia due to the discontinuation of a major plastics recycling program, and there are currently limited options for reuse of soft plastics.

This new concrete mix opens up a new era for recycling of soft plastics.
