McConnell Dowell assumed responsibility for the delivery of this major underground construction project in Singapore following the insolvency of the original contractor. The project involved construction of two underground stations located at Sixth Avenue and King Albert Park.

The station at Sixth Avenue is approximately 190 m long and up to 60 m wide whilst King Albert Park is approximately 195 m and up to 80 m wide. The project is adjacent to Beauty World Station and Tunnels project which was also constructed by McConnell Dowell.

The multi-level station construction includes all temporary work strutting and permanent deep sump pits, walls and ventilation shafts and structural work. The station works include the architectural finishes, mechanical and electrical services and fire services.

Twin tunnels run between the stations directly beneath the busy Bukit Timah Road. As the tunnel invert varies between 18 m and 23 m below ground level and as the groundwater table is located very close to the surface, tight groundwater and excavation control were needed to be carried out to minimise settlement.
