ExxonMobil awarded McConnell Dowell South East Asia Pte Ltd three contracts associated with its Singapore Parallel Train (SPT) Project on Jurong Island. The SPT Project is an integrated petrochemicals project that included a steam cracker ethylene complex and two downstream plants for the production of ethylene and propylene derivatives. The new plant integrates with existing ExxonMobil plants at the Jurong refining and chemical complex.
McConnell Dowell was awarded the major work package for the Preassembled Racks/Stick Build Racks (PARs/SBRs) which involved the fabrication and erection of 7,300 tonnes of structural steel and 156km of pipe of various diameters, thicknesses and materials. The racks were built as modules at our Batam Fabrication Facility, barged to Singapore and erected on site. McConnell Dowell also undertook site civil/structural, mechanical and electrical brownfield site works.
McConnell Dowell executed the SPA-X ME&I and civil/structural contracts for the modification and upgrade of the existing oxy-alcohol plant to double its capacity. Works included piling, foundations, structural steel, piping, equipment installation, electrical, instrumentation and commissioning work.
The 5km of pipe racks provided the critical infrastructure to connect the existing facilities to the new expansion. These contracts culminated in an eight week 24/7 shutdown, starting on schedule and reaching guaranteed production rate in record time. The site works were performed in a live plant with
4.5 million manhours LTI free and no disruption to the operating facility.
The key to McConnell Dowell’s success was an intense focus on safety and training while mobilising the extensive fabrication yard and site teams necessary to complete these works.
