Fast Facts

  • Fifth successful project for MRPV
  • Adding extra traffic lanes in both directions for 4 km
  • Upgrading five existing intersections
  • Installing new traffic lights
  • Building new walking and cycling facilities

We successfully upgraded a 4 km stretch of Epping Road in Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern corridor — a key infrastructure project enhancing traffic flow, safety, and connectivity for over 35,000 daily road users, 85 local businesses, and 759 properties along the route. This was our fifth successful project for MRPV.

Our scope of work included:

  • Adding extra lanes in each direction between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue

  • Upgrading five major intersections and installed new traffic lights at Park Street

  • Improving pedestrian signals at Taggerty Grove

  • Delivering a new shared walking and cycling path

  • Installing on-road bicycle lanes and roadside safety barriers

Traffic Management and Innovation

To minimise disruption, our team executed over 500 short-term and 22 long-term Traffic Management Plans, strategically sequencing works to maintain access throughout construction.

We also implemented E-Booms — remote-controlled boom gates that reduced reliance on human traffic controllers and significantly improved onsite safety.

Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety

Community access was prioritised through more than 30 planned pedestrian and cycling diversions. These included temporary, well-lit footpaths and clearly signed detours to maintain safe, continuous access throughout the duration of works.

Utilities and Property Interface

The project required the relocation of over 14 km of essential utilities — including gas, water, electricity, and telecommunications — many of which serviced 759 properties and 85 businesses along the corridor.

To coordinate this complexity, we developed a Utility Works Tracker — a live tool providing real-time visibility into utility activities, associated impacts, and stakeholder engagement. Early relocation planning reduced construction conflicts, streamlined delivery, and minimised delays.

Environmental Management

Environmental protection was built into the project from the outset. Works were carefully designed around No-Go Zones and areas of ecological significance, with close coordination alongside environmental agencies and the local water authority.

Key initiatives included a temporary diversion of Findon Creek to enable construction of two major culvert crossings, and the integration of frog crossings to protect local biodiversity. This approach demonstrated our commitment to embedding ecological considerations into early project planning and delivery.

Heritage Preservation

There was also some important legacy initiatives on the project, including the preservation of heritage stone walls and the relocation of an historic church.
