McConnell Dowell staff from Melbourne's head office volunteered at FareShare’s new kitchen at Abbotsford last Tuesday morning 24th September.
FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need. Each year FareShare transforms rescued, donated and our homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact.
Our staff were hands-on in the kitchen, where we:
• assembled and packed 747 x 400g single-serve tray meals of Mexican beef and rice,
• prepared 216 portions of chicken buffalo winglets,
• opened up gnocchi and trayed them up for cooking – and they will have ended up in another 800 meals,
• chopped 60kgs broccoli,
• dried dishes, folded tea towels (ditto), and
• helped out with the cleaning and re-setting of the kitchens at the end of the shift.
