Crafting Creative Construction Christmas cards

The creative tamariki (children) at Randwick School in Moera, Lower Hutt helped design the 2022 McConnell Dowell Christmas card for our New Zealand and the Pacific Island employees.

Randwick School is located alongside our launch shaft on the Barber Grove WWTP Duplication Project in Wellington. The project team engaged with the school and the wider local community from the outset and the school kindly hosted our community open day in their school hall earlier in the year.

We asked the kids to draw about ‘what Construction and Christmas means for you and your family’. Fantastic colourful entries ranging from the traditional Christmas tree, to cranes and diggers, snowmen (one with a road cone as a hat), and reindeer with high-viz vests, through to classic kiwi family beach scenes were submitted. Each entry expressed their individual interpretations as you can see in the top four entries shown below.

The artwork chosen for the card cover was designed by Irihapeti TK, aged 8. Cody, and Hayley, ages 7 and 8 respectively were high commended and all tamariki were presented with new art supplies to thank them for their involvement in the competition.
