Innovate - Reconciliation Action Plan

9 8 McConnell Dowell | Built Environs Reconciliation Action Plan | Innovate Message from McConnell Dowell’s Managing Director What does ‘Creating Better Together’, mean for our business in the context of reconciliation? For me, it is about working with our customers, staff and supply partners to create positive and lasting change for the communities in which we work. We see this as our opportunity to play our part in society’s meaningful and deliberate steps toward reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), launched in November 2020, gave our business an opportunity to do just that, to reflect and educate and better understand what reconciliation can look like. We still have a long way to go, that is why it is so pleasing, to present our second RAP. This RAP phase is called ‘Innovate’ and will build on the strong foundations we set of ourselves during our first ‘Reflect’ RAP. As an engineering led construction company, we know the importance of working with a robust plan. But achieving reconciliation together needs more than just a good plan. That is why all our people will come with us on this important journey and a joint effort will be critical in taking this next step. That is, Creating Better Together. Jim Frith Managing Director, Australia We have a 50-year history of working collaboratively with and within First Peoples’ communities all over Australia and McConnell Dowell has a record of creating positive change for local communities throughout Australia and further abroad. We also recognise there is far more to be done. Message from Built Environs’ Managing Director We believe in relationships not transactions, developing trusted partnerships with our customers, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers that are built on honesty and integrity - one of our core values. The RAP artwork embraces people, unity and connection. If we are going to take some real positive steps towards reconciliation together, we need to focus on those three themes. The success of this RAP relies on everyone in this business getting behind it, being open, and embracing this journey we are on together. That is why we are so proud to be putting our energy behind this journey with McConnell Dowell Australia. Moving beyond Reflect and into Innovate will result in us learning, changing and embracing the pillars of reconciliation in our business. This RAP will help us embrace our past and move forward with greater purpose into the future. Built Environs has a proud 35-year history of designing and constructing significant buildings across Australia and more recently, in New Zealand. Michael Clemenger Managing Director, Built Environs
