The contract entails the design and construction of two MRT tunnels, a new underground station including station entrances, subway links, architectural finishes and external landscaping. The new station will not only link commuters from the north western part of Singapore to the Marina Bay area, but it will also double as a civil defence shelter.

The Beauty World Station and tunnel works saw more ongoing and exciting work for McConnell Dowell take off in Singapore. McConnell Dowell was awarded this esteemed contract to construct the new Beauty World Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) underground station and associated tunnel works in March 2009.

Singapore has become a bustling area for population growth. Increased patronage, development and tourism have created a rapid demand for superior infrastructure to combat this growth. The MRT project will bring much needed improvement to Singapore’s transport infrastructure.

The project forms part of the overall Downtown Line Stage 2 (DTL2) scheme, to link commuters from the Bukit Timah corridor to the North East Line, North South Line and Circle Line.

McConnell Dowell’s innovative method of removing the existing 33-year-old Pedestrian Overhead Bridge in two sections, concern for public safety and potentially major traffic disruption secured the award of the extended contract.

McConnell Dowell was awarded a Green and Gracious Builder Award (Excellent Category) from the Building and Construction Authority in recognition of its environmental and sustainability efforts throughout the project.
