L&D Manager Recognised by Industry

Congratulations to McConnell Dowell Learning and Development Manager Anand Naidu, who was awarded Runner Up in the Practitioner of the Year category at last night’s NZATD Awards. Second place was a significant achievement given the huge number of entries in this category. The award acknowledged Anand’s “broad range of skills: strategy, coaching, mentoring, leadership, design skills [and] assessment.”

Underpass Wins Concrete Award

An unusual and striking approach to a pedestrian and cycle underpass has won the Excellence in Civil Concrete Construction category at the 2016 Concrete Sustainability Awards. The 180m long underpass, which was opened on 9 September, is part of the NZ$93m Russley Rd upgrade in Christchurch, which is being delivered by a McConnell Dowell Downer Joint Venture together with designer AECOM and sub consultants Jasmax and WAM.

International Award Success

McConnell Dowell is pleased to announce our success at the 2016 International Pipe Line & Offshore Contractors Association (IPLOCA) Excellence in Project Execution Award on Friday  in Paris, France. City Rail Link Receives Highest Sustainability Rating

Amadeus Gas Pipeline Project Completion

After 14 months in the Northern Territory, the Amadeus team have completed the last of the facilities along the Amadeus Gas Pipeline between Darwin and Mereenie, approximately 300km west of Alice Springs. APA awarded the project to McConnell Dowell in May 2015, whereby the existing coating of the below ground pipework at 25 facilities was to be removed and replaced with a new epoxy coating, and the sites reinstated to their original condition. An additional facility was added to the project scope during execution of the site works, taking the total number of stations completed to 26.

O-Bahn City Access Project Milestone

The O-Bahn City Access Project in South Australia has reached another milestone over the weekend with the realignment of East Terrace near Rymill Park. In preparation for the next stage of the project, traffic travelling on East Terrace between Grenfell and Hutt Streets will be switched to a new section of road, to the west of the existing alignment.

McConnell Dowell is pleased to announce the award of another gas pipeline EPC project in Thailand. PTT Public Company Limited, Thailand’s state-owned oil and gas company has awarded McConnell Dowell Constructors Thai Ltd the contract for design, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 48 km, 28-inch diameter gas pipeline linking the Provincial Gas Transmission Pipeline Project to Nakhon Ratchasima Extension Phase. Constructors Team Up for Next Major Roading Project

The NZ Transport Agency has awarded a McConnell Dowell - Downer joint venture the contract to deliver the NZ$195million second stage of the Christchurch Southern Motorway (CSM2). CSM2 is the final section in the Canterbury Roads of National Significance (RoNS) portfolio to be awarded and will complete a package of projects designed to address increased travel demand and congestion in the south of Christchurch and Canterbury. The upgraded road network will provide better access to and from the south of Christchurch, the city centre and Lyttelton, by improving the capacity, safety and alignment of the Christchurch Southern Corridor.

2016 Mining Contractor Awards

The McConnell Dowell Mastermyne Joint Venture (MDMJV) won at the prestigious Queensland 2016 Mining Contractor Awards last week for their technology-led innovation at Anglo American’s flagship Grosvenor mine. Supporting Anglo’s industry-leading Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) development program, (a first in the Queensland coal industry), the MDMJV successfully applied high-productivity civil construction methods to the heavily regulated mining environment to reduce the program from 46 to 26 weeks and deliver outstanding safety and cost benefits.

Kundabung to Kempsey Pacific Highway Upgrade Traffic Switch

Roads and Maritime Services engaged McConnell Dowell OHL JV to build the Kundabung to Kempsey Pacific Highway Upgrade. The K2K project will deliver 14 kilometres of four lane divided highway from north of Barrys Creek, near Kundabung, to the southern end of the Kempsey bypass. Major work started in November 2014 and is expected to be completed in 2017, weather permitting.

PUGs Completion Celebration

With over 100,000m2 of new, high performance concrete successfully laid, McConnell Dowell has now completed the Papa, Uniform and Golf (PUG) taxiways at Melbourne Airport.  The new pavements, up to 500mm thick, replace deteriorating slabs and ensure safe access for aircraft arrival and departure from the terminal building.
