McConnell Dowell’s reputation as a Creative Construction company has been supported by two wins at the Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ) Canterbury Branch Contractor of the Year Awards on Saturday.
We are delighted to have been awarded the Innovation Award for the Waitaki Erosion Remediation project, and the Supreme Award of the night – the Contractor of the Year Award. This is awarded to the contractor considered by the judges to have the best all-round performance in the Christchurch region.
The erosion remediation work was carried out at Meridian Energy’s Waitaki Dam and Power Station in North Otago. It involved design, consenting and construction works for three separate parts of the dam upgrade: the tailrace right bank erosion remediation and protection works at the switchyard, the sluice pier remediation works and the Left Bank anchoring.
Our methodology and design included several firsts in New Zealand, including the use of Rukki interlocking drilled piles. This new system provided safety advantages by eliminating the need to work on the water, and delivered significant savings to the client.
Our client, Meridian Energy, is “extremely happy” with our work, which they consider was “executed to a very high standard”.
