McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust) Pt Ltd has been awarded the contract to revamp the below ground pipework coating at 25 stations by APA Group, as part of its regular maintenance programme for the approximately 1,400km-long Amadeus Gas Pipeline, which runs from Darwin to Alice Springs and then on to Mereenie.
The pipeline will continue to operate during the maintenance project, which is expected to run for 12 months and will involve assessment of the coating condition as well as undertaking the work required to restore the stations to their original condition.
Primary challenges for the project include the remote nature of APA’s assets and the distances to be travelled between sites. There will be a large focus on journey management, and in particular driver and worker safety and remote area logistics management.
Jim Frith, McConnell Dowell Executive General Manager Pipelines said
“We are very pleased to continue to strengthen our existing oil and gas project presence in the Northern Territory through delivery of this contract. We also welcome the opportunity to continue our successful business relationship with APA Group following on from the recent completion of the first stage construction of the Victorian Network Interconnect Expansion.”
Works are anticipated to commence in June 2015.
