McConnell Dowell, in partnership with Tenix, has been awarded a contract by Melbourne Water to build a pilot wastewater treatment plant and demonstrate its operational capability and cost effectiveness over the coming 12 months.
Three consortia, each with an alternate treatment process, will build and operate pilot plants at Melbourne Water’s Western Treatment Plant.
Pilot plant design will commence immediately, with construction and commissioning of the plant occurring by mid-January 2015.
Process optimisation and demonstration will occur throughout 2015, with a final report by January 2016. In parallel, a full scale plant will be designed and a lump sum construction estimate prepared.
It is anticipated that in June 2016 Melbourne Water will appoint a consortium to construct and commission a full scale plant.
