Beauty World Tunnels TBM Assembly begins

The assembly of the massive 700 tonne Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) on the Beauty World Station and Tunnels project begins.

The Company is pleased to announce that the assembly of the massive 700 tonne Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) on the Beauty World Station and Tunnels project in Singapore is now successfully underway.

The two 6.0m diameter TBMs are being lowered, piece by piece, into the 30m deep launching shaft, and will then be assembled below ground and launched on their combined 2km journey to the next station on the Singapore DTL2 metro network.

Prior to arrival to site, the purpose-built TBMs were manufactured and fully assembled in the Herrenkneckt workshops in China for factory acceptance testing. Once they passed the acceptance test, they were painstakingly broken down for transport, and shipped to Singapore for reassembly on site.

An enormous Superlift, 800 tonne capacity crane, has been mobilised and assembled to carry out the heavy lifting, and full assembly is planned to take four weeks.
The TBMs will be officially blessed with an upcoming official-ground breaking ceremony in the next few weeks, which will be attended by Government and Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) dignitaries.
