On the Granite Island Causeway project in South Australia our team collaborated with artists from the local Ngarrindjeri & Ramindjeri nations and integrated Aboriginal artwork into the causeway design.
The artwork was sandblasted into the concrete deck panels creating a 620 m long mural that is specific and meaningful to the area and its people. The design depicts the dreaming stories of Kondoli, the powerful giant and keeper of fire, and Ngurnderi, the ancestral creation.
Ngarrindjeri & Ramindjeri representatives provided valuable guidance and input into the project's cultural heritage management plans. They also completed a Welcome to Country / Smoking Ceremony, performed cultural heritage spotting duties during excavations, and led cultural heritage awareness training for our workforce.
