Prepared for Water & Waste Water Projects
May 2026
Thank you for considering McConnell Dowell. This short capability statement explains a bit more about the benefits of working with us and showcases our capabilities and some of the interesting projects we deliver.
We understand what matters most to our water industry customers - uninterrupted supply, minimal disruption, safety, compliance, and positive community engagement.
We've been entrusted with the design and delivery of major metro desalination and water treatment plants, as well as the construction of dams and large-diameter pipeline and pump station networks.
We've delivered approximately $9 billion in new water assets over the last 15 years, including:
We're delivering Contract C1A, part of Singapore's Deep Tunnel Sewage System Phase 2 project.
Contract C1A, involves site establishment works, and all temporary and permanent above and below ground services and utilities for the new Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (TWRP). Located in the south west corner of the island, TWRP will receive both industrial and domestic wastewater.
We've successfully delivered the new Kukum Highway Sewer Pipeline Project for the Solomon Islands’ Water Authority, dealing with traffic, hard ground and unexploded World War II ordinance.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Telekom to Fisheries’ project, the new pipeline alignment runs from the Ministry of Fisheries building through the Ranadi Roundabout to the Telekom building. The project is the first stage in a long-term plan to improve sanitation in Honiara, the nation's capital, which is located on the largest island, Guadalcanal.
Using an innovative caisson (sunk shaft) construction method, we designed and delivered the Warkworth Pump Station, part of Watercare's broader scheme to improve the wastewater network from Warkworth to Snells Beach.
We built the new 247 litre per second wet-well / dry-well pump station adjacent to an existing pump station in Lucy Moore Memorial Park, implementing construction strategies and approaches to protect the sensitive park and river environment.
Co-financed by the Australian and Indonesian governments, we successfully delivered the Palembang Waste Water Treatment Plant Project to improve the health, quality of life, and the natural environment for 40,000 residents on the island of Sumatra.
The project represented a significant undertaking and the centrepiece of a wider program to improve Indonesia's overall sustainability and resilience of essential water assets.
We used our industry-leading marine capability in the design, construction and commissioning of this new raw water pump station for the Thai Oil Company. The new pump station was part of their New Bang Phra Raw Water Line project in Thailand.
The new pump station provides over 4,000 m3/h of raw water and replaced an existing system, which was insufficient due to its low capacity pumps, pipe leakage and corrosion.
Limiting our construction footprint was a key part of our delivery approach for the St Marys Bay Area Water Quality Improvement Project in Auckland.
Now complete, this Auckland Council Healthy Waters project reduces the frequency of releases of stormwater overflow into the Waitematā Harbour by 95%. It provides storage in the form of a 1.8 m diameter, 2 km long underground pipeline, and a new 450 m long ocean outfall. Stored water is pumped back into the sewer network when there is capacity. Discharged water is released far away from places where people swim.
As part of the Deerubbin WaterFutures Consortium, we designed and constructed of one of the largest water recycling plants in Australia. The St Marys Advanced Water Treatment Plant provides environmental flows to the Hawkesbury-Nepean River system and highly treated recycled water for industry and new homes in Sydney’s booming western suburbs.
The consortium included United Group Infrastructure, GE Water and Process Technologies, and ourselves.
We were a member of the Adelaide Aqua consortia responsible for designing, building, and commissioning the Adelaide Desalination Plant, the state's largest ever infrastructure project. The reverse osmosis plant is one of the most efficient in the world and can produce 100 GL of fresh water each year.
The project encompassed all construction disciplines including bulk earthworks, civil structures, marine, tunnelling, mechanical, electrical, and building works. Some 10,000 people were employed during construction.
Our in-house mechanical team delivering these works has extensive experience in asset renewal, planned maintenance, and fabrication. They are using advanced techniques such as LiDAR scanning, 3D modeling, and the creation of digital shop drawings to reduce site work and save time compared with traditional methods.
Regularly recording site conditions using drone-captured photogrammetry data has also enabled better tracking and more accurate progress payment claims.

In joint venture with Diona (the Water North JV) we're one of three major framework partners delivering SA Water’s multi-billion dollar capital delivery program. The 'Frameworks' model fosters collaboration and innovation in the planning and delivery of water projects across metro and regional South Australia.
During the first four years (2020 - 24) our team delivered approximately 150 projects, including the design and construction of:
We foster our 'Home Without Harm' safety culture through robust processes, effective systems, and by recognising and rewarding safe behaviours.
Our Site Safety Managers are always on our project leadership teams, ensuring safety is prioritised in all site activities. Every team member has clear safety responsibilities, aimed at protecting themselves, their colleagues, and the community.
We're also leading our industry in the adoption of new safety technologies, like virtual reality plant simulators and AI-enabled blind spot elimination. Check out the case studies below for more information.
Underpinning it all are our Safety Golden Rules. Built on our long-term collective knowledge and learnings, they are specifically targeted at preventing fatalities and serious injuries.
